MC Kold (Emcee Kold) whose acronym means Knock Out Lyrical Domination is a Malawian Alternative Hip-Hop artist based in the Malawian capital Lilongwe, Area 25. The self-acclaimed passion-over-fame artist who took the urban music scene by storm in the early 2009s after graduating from high school set out on a different path from his rap peers at the time. The passion-driven artist is one of the few Conscious Alternative Hip Hop artists to ever make it out in the game with his conscious lyrics and introspective concepts that saw him mature from a regular rap artist to an epitome of lyrical prowess in his neighborhood, Area 25. He is hailed to have influenced a lot of up-and-coming urban acts from his neighborhood and beyond. He worked on his debut mixtape which he titled "Back To The Raw" in 2010, which included the smash hit "I'm Not Afraid" which was his rendition of Eminem's ‘Not Afraid’ song from the Recovery album. Like any other debut project Back To The Raw had a lot of hard rap songs and deep content showcasing the hunger, aggression, enthusiasm, and frustrations of a young rapper hailing from the infamous ghetto neighborhood of Area 25. The following year MC Kold released his second Mixtape titled "Passion Over Fame" which took his fans on a journey of his reflective discovery of self-worth and the epiphanies he had about the music industry at the time. Unlike Back To The Raw, Passion Over Fame was a more contemplative and mellow project that also featured some spoken word sessions and ultimately solidified a smooth sound to it. This also showed the different musical side of the rapper at the time as he incorporated more melodies and a little singing in his songs accompanying the smooth rap lyrics. In 2013 MC Kold released his third Mixtape "Zaku 25" with KRUK'D MYNDS, a rap group that he'd formed with two of his childhood friends, Skiz-D and Emm-Paul also from Area 25. MC Kold started working on another joint project with Complex [the niece to Phyzix] in 2014, but due to creative differences and availability issues, he decided to release the only songs available in 2015 as a collective Extended Playlist called "25 Nation" which had a lot of collaborations with Area 25's finest artists at the time. Metanoia EP was released mid-year in 2020 and it has a more alternative sound as the artist is seen to have more Electro Dance Music influences on this project and some soft Neo-Soul vibes changing his whole sound sonically while inserting his superficial raps on some records. MC Kold is a complete multi-genre artist as his diversity and versatility prove to be remarkably top-notch, always giving his fans different sounds and taking them by surprise every time.
